Broward County Library Cards

A Broward County Library card is all you need to unlock a world of educational and fun resources. Use it to search millions of books, eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, music, movies, and more. You can also easily place holds and renew materials online.

Instant eCard​ - for online resources

Gain immediate access to our complete online collection of eMedia including eBooks, eAudiobooks, streaming movies and music, eMagazines, research sources and more. Eligibility requirements are to either currently live, work, attend school or be visiting Broward County.​

  • Apply online for an Instant eCard. You will receive an email with your new library card number.

All-Access Card - for physical collection ​​& online resources

Borrow books, DVDs, CDs, hotspots and more to take home with you. This card also gives you access to our entire collection of online resources/eMedia (eBooks, movies, music, etc.).​

  • Apply in person at any branch and choose the card design that suits you best.​

Broward County Student or Employee: Applicant must present Section B photo identification as listed above and any one of the following

  • Current school schedule (with school address)
  • Current school ID (must identify a school in Broward County)
  • Employment ID (must identify a Broward County employer address)
  • Letter from school registrar's office
  • Payroll stub showing Broward County address of employer​​​
Non-Resident All Access Card ​– Full access to borrow Broward County Library materials and use online resources. Valid for one year and costs $38. Visit any Broward County Library location to obtain card.

Non-Resident eCard – Access to Broward County Library's complete collection of digital materials. Valid for one year and costs $38. Please fill out a short online form​ and our staff will contact you within 14 ​business days. ​If you currently have a Non-Resident eCard you can also fill out the form to extend your card for another year.

NSU-Alvin Sherman Library E-Card – Use your Broward County Library card number to apply online for a NSU-Alvin Sherman Library eCard and get immediate access to all of the Alvin Sherman Library's online resources.

Loan Totals
You may check out up to 49 items total, which includes a maximum of 20 DVDs, per library card. You can find out how many items you currently have checked out by viewing your account​.​

Late Fines
  • ​​​Late fines will no longer accrue​ on borrowed Broward County Library materials and customers will not be fined for items that are returned after the due date and existing late fines were removed from library cardholder accounts. 
  • Cardholders are still financially responsible for existing fines for non-picked up items and damaged items. 
Lost/Damage Fines - Items are considered lost when they are 35 days past the due date.​​
  • Cardholders are still financially responsible for lost or damaged items and are encouraged to return materials on time to make them available to others.​ ​
  • Fines can be paid in person at a Broward County library or online with any major credit card by logging into your account​ (there is a $2 transaction fee for each online payment).

1 - Log In
Enter your library card number and last four digits of phone number.

2 - My Account
Once you have logged in, go to My Account at the top of the page.

3 - Renew
From the Account Summary screen, go to "Checkouts" tab and and click the checkbox to the left of the item and click the "Renew" button. The system will indicate whether the item is available to renew or not, and if it is, a new Due Date will be generated. ​

If you find a book, DVD, or CD that you want, you can have it delivered, for free, to any Broward County Library location of your choice for pick-up. You may place up to 20 items on hold. 

1 - FIND IT
Search for a material in search bar at top of screen. Use "Advanced" features if you want to filter your search.

2 - LOG IN
Log in with your library card number and last four digits of your phone number.

3 - HOLD IT
​Once you are logged in, select the Broward County Library ​ location​ of your choice and tap the "Place Hold" button.

If you change your mind, go to My Account, choose "Holds" tab, click checkbox to left of item and click "Cancel Hold(s)" button at bottom of screen.

Your Hold menu also allows you to "Edit Pickup Location(s)," "Edit/Suspend Hold(s)," and "Cancel Hold Suspension(s)."​​
